the horror
— OG Ben, aka the dead one

— canon point is generally post-season 1 or post-season 2, but I can fluctuate through any times for memes & psls! For games, he'll likely be right at the end of season 2, after his soul finally moved on ~into the light (so I can shove him into some new hell)

— wide open to canonmates from any timeline / universe / etc.

— available for memes, psls, & potentially games

— seeking: anything, really! other characters with powers, gifted shenanigans, ghost shenanigans, AUs galore, anything horror... Hargreeves siblings (from any verse / canon point / etc); I'm very interested in expanding on the small amount of screentime / potential this Ben got, and growing him further. I'd also definitely be down to write him during/after season 4, finagle something fun there!

appearance
Ben died when he was seventeen years old; however, he continued to age up due to being "tethered" to his brother Klaus, who possesses abilities of spirit summoning. With all the time-hopping he's been subjected to alongside Klaus, and his status as a ghost, it's difficult to pinpoint any true age to Ben. Generally speaking, he could be considered late twenties to early thirties by now. Dresses in dark colours, typically black pants, shirt, and a leather jacket with a hoodie built into it.
height 5'9''
build slim, toned
eyes dark brown
hair black
abilities
eldritch horrorsBen's stomach hosts a portal to other dimensions, from which eldritch tentacled entities live and can be unleashed. As a child, this ability was generally used to do the messiest work, anything that required terrorising and frightening criminals, as well as more extreme amounts of violence and often bloodshed. While controlling the entities to do his bidding would have been the ideal, Ben never quite learned how, due to being afraid of and disturbed by his ability, never nurturing it beyond simply unleashing the horrors when directed to by his father (or coaxed by his siblings), and dying when he was still extremely young, before he could truly learn how to handle his power. As a ghost who trailed his brother Klaus for over a decade, Ben never had the need to use these abilities, and so they continued to remain out of his control. As of recent events, he's let the horrors out a couple of times as an adult, and they continue to be a whirling mass of wild tentacles that just lash out at whatever's close by. Perhaps learning to control them could still be feasible, though inevitably much more difficult now.
possession As a ghost, Ben has the ability to possess living humans. It's only temporarily and takes effort for him to remain inside of someone's body, but could potentially be strengthened with time and practice.
background
One of forty-three children inexplicably born all across the world to women with no previous signs of pregnancy on October 1, 1989, Ben was adopted from Seoul, South Korea by the enigmatic Sir Reginald Hargreeves, along with six other children. Together, the seven of them formed the Umbrella Academy, where they underwent training, seemingly with the purpose to act as superheroes, protecting the world. Ben (aka The Horror) was a sensitive, introverted, and bookish child, who shirked from the grotesque and violent entities living inside of him, though followed along with his adoptive father's command to unleash the horrors whenever he was told to. He was considered the easiest of his siblings to manipulate, and Reginald had no qualms against doing so.

At age seventeen, Ben was killed while on a mission, the catalyst that led to the Umbrella Academy crumbling apart. Unbeknownst to all of his siblings except for his spirit-manifesting brother Klaus (aka The Séance), Ben stuck around as a ghost, not yet ready to pass over. From there, he followed Klaus around for years, able to communicate with his brother whenever the other was sober, and acting as a sort of moral compass for Klaus, who had a penchant towards self-destruction. Eventually after many years, the siblings all made contact again (the literal world ending being the only thing that could bring this broken family together), and Ben continued to keep watch over them from afar, growing increasingly frustrated by his inability to truly be a presence and to only be able to experience everything through Klaus. After much time-hopping fuckery and threats of the world ending yet again, Ben was able to stop the latter from happening by essentially sacrificing himself in the process of possessing and reaching through to one of his siblings who would be the cause of the world's destruction. The process led Ben to finally pass on to the "afterlife".
